Lip Lift

A surgical lip lift (bullhorn lift) is a permanent procedure that elevates the upper lip by shortening the philtrum - the distance between the nose and the upper lip. This often creates a more youthful, balanced appearance without filler.

  • Permanently lifts and reshapes the upper lip for improved facial proportions in select patients
  • Increases upper tooth show, lip fullness and lip eversion without injectable fillers
  • Quick procedure (less than 1 hour) with minimal downtime and long-lasting results

Results

Initial results are obscured by swelling and bruising. The reduces exponentially over the first 2 weeks. Final results are typically seen within 4–6 weeks once full healing has occurred. The scar is subtle and well-hidden at the base of the nose, fading significantly over time. This can also be treated with laser therapy at the 6 week mark to improve the results of the scarring.

How Does It Work

A carefully designed incision is made under the base of the nose, typically in a “bullhorn” shape. A small strip of skin and underlying fat is removed, and the underlying muscle may be adjusted. The lip is lifted and secured in its new position with deep and superficial sutures. In some cases, “corner lifts” are used in conjunction to enhance lip show further. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure. Skin sutures are removed at approximately 7 days post-op, and working from home is possible from the day after surgery. Dr Williams undertakes two detailed preoperative consultations to ensure the surgical design perfectly suits each patient’s unique facial anatomy. This procedure is often ideal for patients who have chased a fuller lip with repeated filler injections without achieving their desired result - dissolving the filler and performing a lip lift frequently produces a superior outcome.
